Prototype documentation

Revision as of 00:49, 22 January 2021 by AcuteSyntax (talk | contribs)

This article and its subpages are intended to provide documentation for Burnout's various prerelease, development or otherwise non-retail prototype builds, as well the terms surrounding them.

Point of Impact

  • August 8th, 2002 demo: A prerelease demo compiled almost a month before Point of Impact's retail version. Similarly to Takedown's promotional demo, it has also had its main menus unlocked to reveal minor, mostly cosmetic differences.

Takedown

Legends (PSP)

  • June 6th, 2005 build: A fully debug-enabled development build that's usually referred to as the "Game Sharing Build", due to its executable being discovered hidden in plain sight among the files of the July 8th demo in the place of where a Game Sharing executable would normally be (UPLOAD.DAT in the game's DATA\ folder).
  • July 8th, 2005 build: A relatively late prototype commonly referred to as the "Demo Build", due to it being discovered on an Official PlayStation Magazine demo multidisc.

Revenge

  • Demo Builds: Multiple, somewhat early demos compiled from May 29th to early July 2005. Most of the assets contained in these builds date back to around late May 2005.
  • July 14th, 2005 "Alpha 7" build: Leaked onto the Internet circa January 2019. Contains a relatively large amount of differences to the final version despite being relatively close to retail, most notably the presence of debug symbols in the build's executable. Indepth documentation of its contents can be found on TCRF.

Dominator

  • January 31st, 2007 "Production 10" build: Post-retail, debug-enabled development build leaked in the Alpha Archive Discord server circa July 2020 and released on ObscureGamers near the end of that same month. Consists only of the game's executable and its debug symbols.

Paradise

  • November 13th, 2006 "FranchiseBuild": A very early pre-alpha prototype. This build was leaked on February 16th, 2019, and hastily released by burninrubber0 soon after.
  • February 22nd, 2007 build: Another relatively early build in the same vein as the November 13 one; however this one has a bit more content (and is more than a bit more broken, since most of this build's files had been overwritten at the time of its discovery and had to be recreated or ported in manually).
  • Other Miscellaneous Builds: Multiple builds of Paradise exist from around the date of the game's finalization; some of them are debug enabled. More information on them can be found at the link.
