Profile
The file used to store saved data for progression is, from at least Burnout 3 onward, called the Profile. All data is stored in this file, with the exception of mugshots in Burnout Paradise (stored separately).

This section lists the general protections in place on each platform. Per-game protection is covered in the relevant subpages.
PC[edit | edit source]
PC has no savegame protection. Saves can be modified freely.
PlayStation 3[edit | edit source]
All PS3 saves are encrypted. They can be decrypted using Bruteforce Save Data.
Xbox 360[edit | edit source]
All 360 saves are stored in a proprietary container format. They can be extracted using a tool such as Velocity.
PlayStation 4[edit | edit source]
Like PS3 saves, PS4 saves are encrypted. As of March 2023, any save decryption and modification requires a jailbroken PS4, which must be running system software version 9.00 or lower. Saves from normal PS4 consoles on higher firmwares can be decrypted using jailbroken consoles. Save decryption can be performed using a tool such as Apollo Save Tool.
Xbox One[edit | edit source]
The Xbox One is the only console on this list that has not been fully jailbroken. Its saves cannot be modified.
Switch[edit | edit source]
Saves cannot be backed up locally on Switch. The console must be jailbroken to export and/or modify saves, and this can only be done unintrusively on some older HAC-001 models. Newer models require modchips, which are increasingly expensive and difficult to find. The exporting and/or modification of saves can be performed with a tool such as EdiZon.
