A close to retail Burnout Paradise build compiled on October 10th, 2007. It comes from the 60GB Criterion PS3 HDD, and begins some of the game's noticeable internal changes.

Due to the mass corruption of files and builds on this drive, this build is unable to be completely and fully replicated, but the experience is mostly the same due to the use of retail assets. See below for all concurrent issues and crashes with this build.

Notable Differences

Only a few weeks out from final compilation, this build boasts a handful of minor edits that are quite difficult to catch.

AI

The only noted AI differences in this build is that they are now able to check traffic where applicable (Same rules as player), and that instead of visibly swerving into danger near the player, they will simply ignore oncoming hazards instead.

Achievements

There are new achievements in this build, a few extras that are placed at milestones for the collectables instead of just the final completion achievements.

UI

The UI is only different in a few spots including a new loading screen, a new title screen, minor changes in the rival shutdown screen, the car unlocked screen, Showtime UI, and other dotted menus.

Traffic Checking

In this build, while the system does not exist in full traffic checking is still partially here, noted by the more pronounced camera shake, the combat sounds as if you were battling an AI car, and difference in shunt physics. The system works exactly the same as retail, meaning that you can only check in certain vehicles and you are unable to check at all at high speeds.

Particles

Crash particles have a much higher density, and a few that are gone by final are present. Smoke puffs on landings and collisions are here, the glass mist (Recolored smoke) has a higher density, and in showtime the smoke puffs are always emanating from your vehicle.

Crashes

The crashes themselves differ, including small changes in physics in how the car propels itself, and traffic cars able to lose wheels in accidents as well. When taken out or wrecked in an event, if your vehicle would normally be able to drive away, your lights will still be on, but the coronas will cut off. This is likely a bug or oversight.

Known Issues

Note: Issues marked with [FATAL] will crash the game.

Inaccurate Traffic Data & AI Data

  • Due to corruption of both B5TRAFFIC.BNDL and AI.DAT files associated with this build we are unable to accurately replicate the changes for both.

Crash Nav Doesn't Work

  • When accessing the Crash Nav map, you are unable to interact with it. You can move the invisible cursor around the map, but no cars show up on it, nor events either. The cause of this is unknown.

New Achievements [FATAL]

  • Unlocking the new milestone achievements will crash the game, however will still save your progress upon reopening. Unknown what the cause of this issue is, but the most likely culprit is the language files.

Options Menus [FATAL]

  • Leaving the options menus after opening them will cause a game crash. Unknown cause, likely the menu GUIAPT files.

Showtime [FATAL]

  • Reaching a 10x multiplier in showtime will cause a game crash. Unknown cause.

Leftovers

While very close to retail, Oct 10 still managed to provide a few goodies in the form of leftovers.

Semis & Trailers

Not in the original files, but by editing the B5TRAFFIC.BNDL file, semi trucks and trailers can be restored. This is the latest build that they will work in due to physics changes by Oct 12.
